The world of blockchain-based digital assets is becoming increasingly popular, and the XRP Ledger is no exception. Just recently, Ripple CTO David Schwartz announced the launch of XRPL’s own standard for Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) on the mainnet, which was activated with amendment XLS-20. This amendment has opened up a whole new world of possibilities for XRP users, and the effects are already being felt.
Kaj Leroy, the founder of the XRPL-based NFT marketplace onXRP, recently announced that all sales on the platform have exceeded a volume of 7.3 million XRP, equivalent to about $2.45 million. This makes onXRP by far the most popular NFT marketplace on the XRP Ledger, followed by xrp.cafe (434,000 XRP, equivalent to around $146,000), and xMart (57,003 XRP, equivalent to $19,184). A total of 21,469 artworks have already been sold on the onXRP NFT marketplace, which is again significantly more than on xrp.cafe (2,451 NFTs) and xMart (211 NFTs).
The success of onXRP is first and foremost due to the exclusive Xpunks collection that the marketplace is presenting. Xpunks are sharing their roots with the legendary CryptoPunks NFT collection. As of today, a total of 337 Xpunks were traded for a total of 5.9 million XRP, equivalent to around $2 million.
The success of onXRP has been welcomed by the crypto community, who are praising the marketplace for its innovation and for bringing NFTs to the XRP ledger. With the increasing popularity of NFTs, it seems likely that onXRP will continue to be at the forefront of the NFT space. It’s clear that XRP users are eager to explore the new possibilities that NFTs bring, and with the launch of onXRP, they can now do so with ease.
